The Fox Business News Republican debate stuck to the issues and focused on the economy. The moderators really did fade into the background – something everybody wanted after the CNBC debacle.
Jeb Bush, stuck in single digits, had to create a “moment” for himself last night. He didn’t. He turned in his best debate performance to date, but it wasn’t enough. Marco Rubio, on the other hand, had another good night – parrying criticism and pivoting to policy like a much more experienced pol. I expect him to rise in the polls.
I’m concerned about the Milwaukee crowd’s reaction to Donald Trump’s signature barbs. He got booed loudly, which could be a sign his act is wearing thin. But Trump defies gravity and, in the end, his poll numbers will probably stay strong.
