According to the Buffalo News, a measly 24.5 percent of Erie County’s registered voters bothered to vote this past Election Day. That’s abysmal in any Democracy, but particularly shameful for Western New York.
Buffalo appears to be poised on the precipice of an economic upswing, but it could be a cliff: It’s growth fueled by corporate welfare and government spending with political favorites. It’s a delicate balance with so much is at stake, one particularly stupid politician could screw it all up. But most can’t be bothered to vote.
Worse: the Buffalo News factored in how many people aren’t even registered to vote here, turns out only 17 percent of our voting-age population voted. For that, we deserve to lose the right to vote. And we will, if this continues.
