If you want to know the mindset of New York’s political criminals, look at Anthony Mangone, a downstate lawyer convicted on corruption charges. The former New York State Senate staffer got caught playing the dirty Albany game.
Mangone spent a thousand hours helping the government convict state Senators Tom Libous, Nick Spano and Vincent Leibell. In return, Mangone’s attorney asked for no jail time. According to today’s New York Times, his federal judge told him: “You made the government’s case against the men who made you what you were.” Translation: You sang like a canary to save your own skin.
“You were a dirty lawyer for many, many years,” the judge said. And she sentenced him to 18 months in prison. That’s one bucket drained from the Albany swamp.
