Campaign debates rarely come up with the results you expect. That’s why many political types hate ‘em – and why guys like me love ‘em. In campaigns everything is scripted, debates are unpredictable and shake things up.
But not last night. Donald Trump held his own, Ted Cruz turned in a surprisingly average performance – and Marco Rubio was good, as always. So the Republican presidential primary will continue in the same direction – with Trump in the lead, Cruz nipping at his heels and centrists desperately pushing Rubio.
Last night, we saw who should drop out now – every candidate in the early debate and Rand Paul. And if you ask me, Jeb Bush – who had his best debate last night – is not far behind. It’s too late for Jeb.
