Andrew Cuomo is on the campaign trail again – and it’s not even an election year for him. But the governor of New York is always campaigning. It’s smart politics.
But sometimes smart politics collides with facts. We saw that with Cuomo in Rochester yesterday in an exchange with Rachel Barnhart, a reporter for WROC-TV. The governor had just finished an upbeat presentation claiming the region is really on the rise. Barnhart challenged his assessment.
She told Cuomo the Rochester area has 40,000 fewer employed than in the 1990s and she asked him to square that with his rosy scenario. “So, you’re a cynic,” he joked. “We’re gonna die someday, so let’s be depressed.” Statistics don’t lie, Governor. And here in upstate, we’ve been dying for decades. It’s not funny.
